Special Projects

In an effort to protect its passengers, its vessels and the marine environment, Optimum Ship Management is currently implementing a number of systems onboard its vessels:

  • Total fuel management system (TFM) custom designed in co-operation with DNV for the reduction of fuel consumption, conservation of water and reduction of waste in order to reduce cost and improve the environmental performance of our vessels.
  • Enviropilot by MARINFLOC: A GPS based real time information system, which advises the Master and officers on which environmental regulations are applicable in the area of sailing whether national or international.

Additionally Optimum Ship Management is participating in technology development projects that will improve safety and environmental performance:

  • Lynceus was the son of Aphareus and Arene, and the grandson of Perseus. He was one of the Argonauts participating in the hunt of the Caledonian Boar – he had preternaturally keen sight, and could even see things that were under the sea. The aim of the LYNCEUS project is to develop a sensor network system that enables the Master and officers to monitor the location of each passenger during emergencies and to locate people in the water. This project is currently in the principal stage and is being tested on one of the Louis Cruises vessels under our management. For more information, please visit the Lynceus website.
  • A meteorological project in collaboration with EU meteorological services to collect weather information via Optimum Ship Management vessels for climactic studies and forecasting.
  • EUROSTARS: A catalytic noise and emissions reduction system in co-operation with EPE.
